Digital Linear Keyer
- The VIP8000 serial digital keyer
provides
downstream keying of captions and logos in CCIR-601 serial digital video
format. It uses 10-bit processing and has serial digital inputs for
Programme, Fill (Caption) and Key. On-board synchronization
automatically re-times input signals, compensating for sources with
errors of up to 3/4 of a line. Provision is made to pass embedded audio
from programme input to programme output, avoiding the need for separate
audio processing and delay equipment.
The VIP8000 operates in either 525 line
/ 60Hz or 625 line / 50Hz mode for PAL and NTSC environments. A
bypass relay links the programme input directly to the transmission
output in the event of mains failure, making it suitable for
installation in the transmission chain.
A comprehensive remote control panel
provides frame-accurate control of
key mix, fade-to-black and fade-from-black, with digital readouts and easy
and accurate adjustment of the transition rates. Separate illuminated keys
are provided for key mix, key cut, fade-to-black and fade-from-black.
The VIP8000 can generate masks for
telecine and other applications, and the remote panel provides simple and
accurate control of mask size and position. The panel also provides key
signal lift and gain, plus mask and key inversion, internal / external key
switching and selection of true linear (foreground add) and crossfade
keying modes.
Programmable keys allow
control panel settings to be stored for easy recall.
VIP8000 remote control panel
The VIP8000 electronics are housed in a 1U
high 19" rackframe with
universal power supply. Connection to the remote control panel is by a
single twisted-pair serial data link. In addition to the comprehensive
range of functions provided by the control panel, four GPI general purpose
interfaces are provided on the rear of the rack, each triggering one of
the four transitions (key fade, key mix, fade-to-black and
fade-from-black).

Aries is a new and unique
multi-use product based on a “deep” frame store synchronizer (i.e. a
frame synchronizer with the capability for expansion of memory to allow
storage of thousands of frames). This impressive new unit is designed to
be “unashamedly high-end” and “transparent”, with 8 or 10 bit
capability.

With optional additional
RAM, Aries may be used as an uncompressed video recorder. It acts as a 2
channel unit, able to record or play-back on both channels
simultaneously, or record on one channel whilst playing-out on the
other. It is capable of recording up to 3 minutes of 4.2.2, or 1.5
minutes of 4.4.4.4. Audio recording facilities include the ability to
“slip” the audio with respect to the video. In fact, Aries can be
regarded as two record/replay devices with a “mixer facility” between
them and as such it provides a very powerful tool for post production
use.

Aries may also be used as a
frame synchronizer, a serial digital video delay line, and as a still
store.

When used as a frame store
synchronizer, Aries includes the capability to auto-freeze in the event
of input signal failure, with the last good field/frame being displayed.
The video delay facility can provide a wide range of delays - from 4
micro seconds up to a maximum of 3 minutes. The still store function
would normally be used as a “mini-store” or “sub-store”, e.g. for OBs,
but with the very valuable extra facilities that the unit allows “full
screen” animated sequences in addition to stills and provides both video
and key outputs.

Aries has the potential for
other powerful features including multi-channel SLO MO, graphics to 601
computer interface, animated captions/logos keyed on to a live source,
and composite multi-layered pictures.

Control of the unit may be
local, or remote via 2 x RS422 ports and 1 x RS232 port.

SDI Time Delay

Our video/audio delay unit is now available with serial digital interface housed
in a space saving 1U-high rack-mountable box. Ten seconds (variable) of delay
are standard, with options for an additional 20 seconds.
The Time Delay unit also features 10-bit video processing, with a primary video
input complemented by an auxiliary/alternate video input. Audio processing is
24-bit, with four channels in and out, along with four auxiliary/alternate audio
channels. Audio in all channels can be selected for AES/EBU, digital or analog,
and can be switched with, or independent of, auxiliary video.
